TOPIC: A VOCAL FAITH AND AN EXPENSIVE LOVE

TEXT: Philemon 1-1-7

1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer, 2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house: Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; 6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

INTRODUCTION TEXT

Apostle Paul in writing this personal letter, defined his audience to include Philemon (the principal recipient), Apphia, Archippus, and some other members of their home church. One major thing he said about them, which was one of the reasons for his continuous gratitude to God, was the constant echoes of their faith and the impact of their love.

These graces in their lives were visible and audible. It was not a quiet and docile virtue, which were unnoticeable and consequently meaningless. They exhibited a vocal faith and a contagious love which yielded positive results. The question for us this moment is, "How loud is our faith?" What about the love of God in us? Is it a "hanging love" or an expressive one? Who are the beneficiaries? What impact is it making and what testimony is it leaving?

Prayer: Lord, may the expression of my faith in and love for You be reflected in my world and may it come back to You in thanksgiving.
