TOPIC: BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING

TEXT: Matthew 6:25-34

   BIBLE PASSAGE:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

INTRODUCTION TEXT

"Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God." (Phil. 4:6). Anxiety is the feeling of worry, nervousness or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. It is the brain's way of reacting to stress and alerting you of potential danger ahead. People feel fearful or nervous when going to job interviews, before taking a test, when they experience a delay in marrying or childbirth, over sickness, wealth and properties, assuming some positions in life, academic achievements and of course, what to eat, drink and put on.

The Bible tells us that only one thing is needful (Luke 10:42) and that is, "seek ye first the kingdom of God...and all these things shall be added unto you " (v.33). Our heavenly Father knows that we have need of these things. Are we not better than the lilies and grass of the field or the sparrows? Yet God clothes and feeds them. When we worry it shows our faith is weak. We should cast our cares upon him for he cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Make your worries and concern known to God in humility and His peace that passes all understanding shall be your portion.

Let's sing together:

Why worry when you can pray; Trust in Jesus and he will lead the way Don't be a doubting Thomas, Just yea on his promise Why worry, worry, worry, when you can pray?

Prayer: Help me dear God to cast my worries and burdens on you because you care for me.
