TOPIC: HE CERTAINTY OF GOD'S PROMISES

TEXT: Hebrews 6:13 – 20

13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

INTRODUCTION TEXT

In our passage today we see that God is faithful to keep His promises. He fulfilled His promises to Abraham to bless and multiply his seed (Gen, 2.1-3) He also promised the children of Israel that He would settle them in the land of Canaan, and He did (Josh. 21.45). God is true to His word He sealed His promises to Abraham with an oath hi own His name (v.13); His promises therefore are unchanging and trustworthy because He can
never lie (w. 17-18).

We are encouraged to wait for God's timing even when our desires seem too urgent to wait any longer. Learn to wait on him because He does not fail. The fulfilment of God's promises does not depend on our attitude but on His love and faithfulness. Our hope is in Jesus, who is our anchor in this turbulent world.

Prayer: Almighty God, help me to ensure my anchor in Christ holds in the storms of life. Amen.
