TOPIC: BEWARE OF EGYPT

TEXT: Exodus 14:10-12

10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.

11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?

12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.

INTRODUCTION TEXT

Egypt represents the land of slavery, oppression and sorrow. God in a miraculous way, delivered Israel from slavery. It was 430 years of sorrow and misery. It is very surprising that few years after the joy of this mighty deliverance, Israel started wishing that they should have been left in Egypt when challenged by the same Pharaoh. Their hearts were still in Egypt for they said, "What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, leave us alone, let us serve the Egyptians?" (Vv11-12). This was very devastating to the leader, Moses. Was it really true that they told Moses to leave them in Egypt? Of course not.

This is a reflection of the lives of some believers today. At the point of salvation from sin and satanic bondage, there is great rejoicing. However, when afflictions and troubles come, they begin to compare themselves with their colleagues in the world (v.57). Some when confronted with financial difficulties, wish that they were not Christians, so that they could steal office or church money to solve their problems like their unbelieving friends. Some are so offended with both God and their leaders that they wish to take permission from God to return to Egypt. Let us beware of an evil heart those lusts after Egyptian lifestyles.

Prayer: Pray for victory over every existing temptations and trials.
