INTRODUCTION

Verse 4 of our text today reveals God as the One that calls generations from the beginning. He can do this because He is the Beginning. He was present with the first of the generations and will still be there with the last of them. He is indeed the Ancient of Days. He is the eternal Lord of history and nations. No nation, in the final analysis; really has control over its future. God reveals through Isaiah, that the origin, positioning and destiny of nations are from Him. This He has displayed in Cyrus, through his conquests, and how he (Cyrus) was used to deliver Israel from the Babylonian captivity, carrying out God’s righteous plan on earth, though a heathen Emperor. We can also read Deut. 32: 8 and Acts 17: 26.

Acknowledging this great attribute of our God should call for His respect, honour, and adoration from us who serve Him.

STUDY GUIDE

1. How do you understand the concept of God as "the beginning (Alpha) of all things” according to our text?" See also Isa 43:10; 44:6-7’ Rev 1:17

2. From the following Bible texts, explain how God has demonstrated His being the “Beginning (Alpha) of all things”: Gen. 1:1-3; Isaiah 46:10; 2 Thes.2:13.

3. Outline ways some Bible characters gave God a prime place in their time, and how we could do the same in our day. Gen.4:3-4; 1Sam.23:2-5; Mark 1:35; 1 Cor.16:2.

4. How can we accord God the first priority or prime place in the practice of the faith? Acts 1:2-3; Col.1:12, 16-18;

CONCLUSION

There is never a being preceding God. He is "the Beginning (Alpha) of all things.” He is the Determiner of history from the beginning. He deserves only the best and prime place in our lives. We cannot and should never do less in all our Christian life.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Giving God the second place is a great error.

MEMORY VERSE: Col 1:18 – “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the Pre-eminence”.
