TOPIC: LEANING ON GOD
TEXT: Jeremiah 10:17-24
17 Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress. 18 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so. 19 Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
20 My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains. 21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered. 22 Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. 24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

INTRODUCTION TEXT
Our text today draws attention to the need to completely depend on God. Some people erroneously believe that they are in control of their lives. They believe that their steps in life are in their power to direct. Others attribute their success in life to their smartness in business, security arrangements, social connections, academic intelligence and eloquence. Some of us believe that the reason we overcame the COVID-19 pandemic is because we stuck to the guidelines. It would be most unfortunate if we divorce God from the center of it all. It is God who is in charge and total control of our lives (Acts. 17:28). Prophet Jeremiah affirmed that God's ability to direct our lives is far superior to our own ability (v.23).
Our knowledge of total dependence on God should teach us to be careful how we live because our lives are not in our hands but in God's hands. The likes of king Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 4:29-31), king Herod (Acts 12.21-23) and the rich fool (Luke 12.13-21) were humbled under the mighty hands of God. Let us humble ourselves and learn to depend on God. As we step out today, let us acknowledge God in all your ways and lean not on your own understanding (Prov. 3.3-5).
Prayer: Sovereign Lord, grant me the grace to understand and always submit to your Will in Jesus name. Amen
