INTRODUCTION

Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from death to Life. It is the celebration of the Light of lights; the King of kings and the Lord of lords. While Easter means the celebration of Christ’s resurrection, Resurrection means the rising of Jesus Christ from the dead after confirmation of His death and his burial for three days. Resurrection is quite different from resuscitation, with the significance of Jesus Christ's triumph over death. Though skeptics may doubt it, the pieces of evidence are simply overwhelming and cannot be refuted. It was an event that demonstrated the greatness of God’s power. In this study, we shall examine the whole concept and its benefit to Christians.

STUDY GUIDE

1. From the context of our introduction and text today, what is resurrection, and how is it different from being raised from the dead, as was the case with Lazarus? John 11:43-44; 20:11-19.

2. From the concept of today’s study, differentiate between Easter and Resurrection.

3. From the following Scriptures what are the evidences that Christ actually rose from the dead? Matt. 27:62-66; 28:2-6, 11-15; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinth 15:3-8.

4. Outline the benefits of the resurrection of Christ. (1Cor.15:12-22, 55-57); Luke 24:45-47.

CONCLUSION

God’s power was demonstrated by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is different from resuscitation. It is the eternal victory of Jesus Christ over powers of darkness employing our sinful situation to afflict us. It is victory over eternal death, and Hades. In addition, it is the assurance of the eternal victory of all Christians at the end of the ages.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Resurrection: the guarantee for eternal Life.

MEMORY VERSE: 1Cor 15:55-57 “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory. The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”.
