SUB THEME: Mandate of God to Earthly Leaders - 3

TOPIC: Wisdom

Text: 1Kings 4:20-34

AIMS: justify ‘Divine wisdom’ as the basis for good leadership and study how earthly leaders can manifest the Wisdom of God.

God as the Supreme ruler operates in a superior dimension of wisdom (Prov. 3:19), and desiresto certain degree such for humans in authority. One of the seven spirits of God bestowed on leaders is the spirit of Wisdom, which was exhibited in Christ when He was in our human form, as prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 11:2). Wisdom is a cardinal mandate of God for leadership. Wisdom is the application of knowledge. Solomon understood that good leadership is not possible without divine wisdom; and that was what he requested from God so that he could rule successfully. We trust God to release this Spirit of wisdom on us all.

1. In your own understanding and in line with 1King 3:7-9, what is wisdom?

2. What is the best source of wisdom and how can we acquire it? 1Kings 3:9; Prob.9:10; James 1: 5; 2: 6-9.

3. According to James 3:13-18, differentiate between earthly wisdom and divine wisdom. Which should be the basis for good leadership?

4. Critically study Gen. 13: 7-9; Isa 42:1; James 3:17-18 and explain how leaders can manifest the wisdom of God.

Ruling with divine wisdom is justified by her fruits of love, gentleness, justice, peace and joy. God is looking for men who will rule His people with His wisdom.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Life is vanity without God's wisdom.

MEMORY VERSE: James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him”.
