THEME: THE LORD GOD AND THE REIGN OF PEACE

SUB THEME: Mandate of the Church for a noble and godly rule (4)

TOPIC: Nation building

TEXT: Gen. 18:18 – 19

AIMS:

i. to impress on us the importance of grooming our children in godliness.
critically consider whether we are preparing our youths adequately or leadership roles in the future.

INTRODUCTION

"Charity", it is said "begins at home".  For any nation to have godly leaders, it is imperative that godliness is taught and practiced in homes, churches and mission schools for as preparation of future godly leaders.  This is clearly God’s mandate to believers whether they be in families, churches, schools, orphanages,. The widespread neglect of this very important area of family life has led to immeasurable damage to the propagation of Christian family values, and the practice of biblical Christianity in our modern society.  The result is the massive failure being experienced in all facets of our national life.

STUDY GUIDE

1. What is God’s injunction to Christians in the context of: Gen. 18:18 –19; Deut. 4:9 –10; Prov. 22:6?

2. Discuss how Christians’ strict adherence to the injunctions in Gen. 18:18 – 19; Deut. 4:9 – 10; Prov. 22:6; 2Tim. 1:5–7 can help in building a nation where immorality does not reign.

3. Mention some practices that need to be addressed in Christian homes today, especially ungodly dressing, disrespect to elders, and unfaithfulness if actually our homes are to be groomed for future nation.

4. With reference to Prov 22:6; 1Sam 1:22; Est 2:7&10; 2 Tim 1: 5-7, how can we prepare our children for future leadership positions?

CONCLUSION

The task of raising children does not end with sending them to very good schools, but we must ensure they also get the best moral education they require to be godly adults in future. If we can consistently abide by this, surely a better generation of rulers awaits our society.

FOOD FOR THOUHT: Education without character building is equal to a decadent future

MEMORY VERSE:  Prov. 22:6. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
