SS&S 982: I am far frae my hame,

SS&S 982: I am far frae my hame,

SS&S 982: I am far frae my hame,

1. I am far frae my hame,

An' I'm weary aftenwhiles,

For the langed-for hame-bringin',

An' my Father's welcome smiles;

An' I'll ne'er be fu' content

Until my een do see

The gowden gates o' heaven,

An' my ain countrie.

The earth is flecked wi' flooers,

Mony-tinted, fresh, and gay:

The birdies warble blithely,

For my Father made them sae:

But these sichts an' these soun's

Will as naething be to me,

When I hear the angels singin'

In my ain countrie.

2. I've His gude word o' promise,

That, some gladsome day, the King

To His ain royal palace

His banished name will bring:

Wi' een an' wi' hert

Rinnin' owre, we shall see

" The King in His beauty,"

In oor ain countrie.

My sins hae been mony,

An' my sorrows hae been sair,

But there they'll never vex me,

Nor be remembered mair ;

For His bluid hath made me white,

An' His nan' shall dry my e'e,

When He brings me hame at last

To my ain countrie.

3. Sae little noo I ken

O' yon blessed, bonnie place —

I only ken it's hame,

Whaur we shall see His face;

It wad surely be eneuch

For evermair to be

I' the glory o' His presence

In oor ain countrie.

Like a bairn to its mither,

A wee birdie to its nest,

I wad fain be gangin' noo

Unto my Saviour's breast;

For He gathers in His bosom

Witless, worthless lambs like me,

An" carries them Himsel'

To His ain countrie.

4. He is faithfu' that hath promised,

An' He'll surely come again,

He'll keep His tryst wi' me —

At what hour I dinna ken;

But He bids me still to wait,

An' ready aye to be

To gang at any moment

To my ain countrie.

Sae I'm watchin' aye, an' singin'

O' my hame as I wait

For the soun'in' o' His futfa'

This side the gowden gate:

God gie His grace to ilka ane

Wha listens noo to me,

That we a' may gang in gladness

To oor ain countrie.

Psalm 33

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
    it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
    make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
    play skillfully, and shout for joy.

For the word of the Lord is right and true;
    he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
    the earth is full of his unfailing love.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
    their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;
    he puts the deep into storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the Lord;
    let all the people of the world revere him.
For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded, and it stood firm.

10 The Lord foils the plans of the nations;
    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
11 But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever,
    the purposes of his heart through all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people he chose for his inheritance.
13 From heaven the Lord looks down
    and sees all mankind;
14 from his dwelling place he watches
    all who live on earth—
15 he who forms the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.

16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
    and keep them alive in famine.

20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
    for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
    even as we put our hope in you.

SS&S songs are up to 1,000 hymns and counting. For the sake of convenience, we are splitting them into hundreds. SS&S 982: I am far frae my hame,
